Replacement Parts for a full technical restoration of an Apogee Scintilla.
General problem description: After many years the dampening stripes which "tame" the resonances of the bass panel are rotting away. Once this happens, you can hear a noise which is often described as a "buzz".
The only competent way to fix this problem is to replace those stripes. This is done by cutting out the bass ribbon, destroying themin the process. We ship non-rotting dampening strips with every bass panel order for a long lifetime of trouble free service.
Many midrange and tweeter ribbons which are "sagging" can be restreched if it is not too far gone. If the speaker lays flat and the ribbon rests agains the speaker grill, we recommend to change it. Ribbons need "return-paths" fo the signal to fully form a closed circuit. Apogee Acoustics (1981-1999) used aluminium foil for signal transfer. We recommend copper returns, which we also offer as self-glueing.
We offer ribbon installation tools which we use during installation or you can buy our build plans to make your own. You can also purchase remote installation coaching via video/audio call.
